I never quite understood what they meant by that. Listening to these guys, specifically Brian Clark, towards the very end of the video. I’m paraphrasing here, but he says that these days he no longer dwells on that day, or on the past, really. He also doesn’t worry too much about the future. You can plan for the future, but you never really know with any certainty what’s going to happen. So what’s left? He says he pretty muchs live in the present.

I think I finally get what they mean when they say “live in the present”

Comfort will kill your dreams

Comfort will kill your dreams:
Funny, this seems to be pretty obvious. But often folks lose site of it.

Being too comfortable means you’re less likely to get pushed to take the risks you need to fulfill your dreams, or even just to get things done.

You need to be sufficiently uncomfortable with the status quo in order to overcome the comfort inertia. I’ve learned this the hard way, as I’m not very comfortable right now. This has spurred me to start a business. Even so, it’s slow going. And I still have a fair bit of comfort that I need to overcome. Maybe the last link I posted can help me there.

Break a bad habit by focusing on the immediate negative impact.

Break a bad habit by focusing on the immediate negative impact.:
I thought this was pretty sage advice. Ultimately, bad habits either continue as a crutch for the long haul, or the effects of the bad habits come to a head and you take necessary steps to change your habits for the better.

Seems those in the know think that focusing on how a bad habit negatively impacts you right now, can help you break that bad habit sooner rather than later.

10 things you need to do if you were fired yesterday

10 things you need to do if you were fired yesterday:
I resemble this blog post…

I wasn’t fired yesterday.. unless you consider the more abstract “yesterday” being in the past, 10 months ago, nearly to the day. The description of my mental / emotional state at the time (and not too far from it now) is spot on.

This hits a bit close to home.

This hits a bit close to home.:
I can relate in many ways to these guys. Eight months ago I was making just shy of six figures. Now I’m delivering pizzas for less than minimum wage.

I sure don’t need a post-graduate degree to deliver pizza. Only test I needed to have passed was a driving test (barely).

I particularly relate to the guy who believed his broad range of experience and, as a result, lack of specialization worked against him. Classic jack of all trades, master of none.

I posted this to Twitter last week, but I watched it again, and...

<embed src="http://www.ebaumsworld.com/player.swf" allowscriptaccess="always" flashvars="pageurl=http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/81100181/&file=http://media.ebaumsworld.com/mediaFiles/video/426694/81100181.mp4&mediaid=81100181&title=The real stairway to heaven&tags=real,Stairway, heaven, tower, climb, extreme, epic, wtf, high, danger, cool, scary, fall&description=First person perspective of an extreme transmission tower climb. Sorry for the Ebaums World link, there was apparently a youtube.com version of this that got taken down.

I’m afraid of heights, and watching this had me nearly apoplectic.. As they got higher, and I’m practically jumping on my couch (think Tom Cruise on Oprah) “No! No!, You can’t possibly” But I couldn’t look away. I couldn’t. Curious to see what y’all think.
I found it helpful even for those of us living unemployed online. I started the main blog at TheUncertainMan.com & the lite, microblog here at UncertainMan.tumblr.com less as a means of financial sustenance, and more as a means of mental and emotional sustenance.

But many of the approaches mentioned in this article would be helpful when trying to grow a blog of this nature, as well as in the job hunt for those looking to get back into the rat race.

UGH.. talk about appealing to the lowest common denominator.. Or in this case, the dumbest common denominator. I can’t believe there are people out there that actually put any stock in what this clown is saying. Comparing him to the great Dr. King is almost an insult. But regrettably, people have to see these two relative to each other and see there is. no. comparison.

mathematiquesnoir:

Excellent point.. When it comes to racism, we need to differentiate between what someone did, and what they are. No one considers themselves to be a racist. It doesn’t mean that we don’t all sometimes say something that’s racist.
