9/11 Four Survivors - Above the impact in Tower 2 -

I always hear people talking about “Live in the present” or “Be in the moment”.

I never quite understood what they meant by that. Listening to these guys, specifically Brian Clark, towards the very end of the video. I’m paraphrasing here, but he says that these days he no longer dwells on that day, or on the past, really. He also doesn’t worry too much about the future. You can plan for the future, but you never really know with any certainty what’s going to happen. So what’s left? He says he pretty muchs live in the present.

I think I finally get what they mean when they say “live in the present”

Comfort will kill your dreams -

Funny, this seems to be pretty obvious. But often folks lose site of it.

Being too comfortable means you’re less likely to get pushed to take the risks you need to fulfill your dreams, or even just to get things done.

You need to be sufficiently uncomfortable with the status quo in order to overcome the comfort inertia. I’ve learned this the hard way, as I’m not very comfortable right now. This has spurred me to start a business. Even so, it’s slow going. And I still have a fair bit of comfort that I need to overcome. Maybe the last link I posted can help me there.

Break a bad habit by focusing on the immediate negative impact. -

I thought this was pretty sage advice. Ultimately, bad habits either continue as a crutch for the long haul, or the effects of the bad habits come to a head and you take necessary steps to change your habits for the better.

Seems those in the know think that focusing on how a bad habit negatively impacts you right now, can help you break that bad habit sooner rather than later.

10 things you need to do if you were fired yesterday -

I resemble this blog post…

I wasn’t fired yesterday.. unless you consider the more abstract “yesterday” being in the past, 10 months ago, nearly to the day. The description of my mental / emotional state at the time (and not too far from it now) is spot on.

This hits a bit close to home. -

I can relate in many ways to these guys. Eight months ago I was making just shy of six figures. Now I’m delivering pizzas for less than minimum wage.

I sure don’t need a post-graduate degree to deliver pizza. Only test I needed to have passed was a driving test (barely).

I particularly relate to the guy who believed his broad range of experience and, as a result, lack of specialization worked against him. Classic jack of all trades, master of none.
